Disempowered : the universal human experience of feeling deflated or defeated
While most people are prepared to go about their business as usual, for most of us, every time we hear the expression our minds turn to dark things. So this Friday the 13th I’m trying to turn the tables.
Of all the sage wisdom, government recommendations, expert advice and common sense lessons there was one thing I learned that stuck out beyond the rest.
If a message is worth sharing, it’s worth reviewing, so let’s do a quick summary and draw some conclusions.
In the past two weeks we’ve broken down some steps to knowing who you are, and explored how to like the self you discovered. Now comes the deceptively challenging task of being who you are.
After we have a handle on knowing ourselves, that is after starting and never stopping the process of asking, listening, testing, changing and accepting, we're ready to take the next leap and learn to like ourselves.
People will try to tell you that overthinking is bad for you, and leads to worry and is a useless exercise which wastes your valuable mental power… And that’s probably true. But ruminating and in-depth processing are also amazing strengths if you just give your brain a little direction.
In this time of curated feeds and personal branding and Facetune and perpetual self-promotion, being genuine and living what we're posting is a value heading toward the endangered species list.
Please don’t let your lofty views of success, the glossy sheen of someone else’s life, or the visions in your head of what you thought life would be keep you from acknowledging when you do something right.
